Bluecrop

Bluecrop is one of the best all around blueberry varieties.  It’s large, sweet, flavorful, powder-blue berries grow in large clusters and ripen on our farm over the course of a month, beginning in early August. The berries are great for eating fresh, preserves, baking, and freezing. Bluecrop is native to North America, growing in eastern Canada and through the east and south of the USA. It can be found from Ontario to Nova Scotia, and southwards, even into Florida and parts of Texas.

Duke

One of the earliest Blueberries to ripen, and one of our favorites, Duke blueberry bushes bear medium to large berries that are sweet, firm, and tasty. We like them so much, they often disappear before we can get them home. These powder-blue berries begin ripening in early July and are great for fresh eating, freezing, and preserving.  The Duke cultivar was released in 1987 by the USDA’s Beltsville Agricultural Research Center in Beltsville, MD.

Elliott

Our Elliott blueberries ripen in the late part of the blueberry harvest season. This highly productive cultivar produces very large (1/2” diameter) dark blue berries that are juicy and have excellent flavor. They are great fresh or in baked good, jams, and jellies.  This variety is native to the southeastern and south-central United States, from southeastern Virginia south to Florida, and west to Arkansas and Texas.

Liberty

Liberty is a relatively recent cultivar that on our farm ripens in mid-July.  The large, sky blue berries are sweet and have a balanced, clean blueberry flavor.  The are great for fresh eating and freezing.  Liberty was bred by Dr. Jim Hancock of the Michigan State University blueberry breeding program.  The cultivar was released in 2004.
